Nutrient Accounting Module
The Nutrient Data Base (NDB), maintained by Unisoft Systems Associates, is considered one of the most complete and reliable data bases in the nation. The food item file is updated with the newest nutrient data available from USDA, food manufacturers, and scientific research studies. The file contains over 12,000 individual items and supports nutrient analysis of food items for up to 68 nutrients.
The Nutrient Data Base Module interfaces with the Recipe Module File for automatic nutrient analysis of all recipes. Foods may be accessed and entered for analysis by item name or code number using standard household measures or gram weights. The file's comprehensiveness and ease of use save professional time and provide valuable tools for enhancing nutritional care.
The user can add an unlimited number of food items to the file. Although the NDB file contains the nutrient value of a specific food item based on a 100 gram portion, the software will automatically convert a specified portion size of a food item into 100 gram portions for entry into the file, eliminating manual calculation of nutrient values.
Nutrient Analysis
A patient menu or individual dietary intake record can be analyzed for up to 68 nutrients and are compared to the National Academy of Sciences Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), and the U.S. dietary goal recommendations for amounts of carbohydrates, fat, and protein in the diet. Nutrient ratios of polyunsaturated to saturated fat, zinc to copper, and calcium to phosphorus are also reported. Food items can be accessed and entered online by either name, number, or from a pick list of items, eliminating the need for time-consuming numeric coding. A dietitian code allows several dietitians to maintain separate files of nutrient analysis and assessment clients. An intake average can be generated for a patient for a specified time period.
Nutritional Screening And Assessment
A clinical nutritional assessment module has been designed to meet the needs of both inpatient and outpatient populations. A nutritional assessment may be performed at any time, with or without nutrient analysis. Somatic, visceral protein, and immunologic data entered are compared to standard values. Caloric and protein needs are calculated by the system for weight maintenance, gain or loss, and for various trauma states. Actual intake of kilocalories and protein is calculated from oral, enteral, and parenteral intake. Nutrition support recommendations can be made from the assessment data and printed on a report.
Numerous reports can be generated from the Nutrient Data Base file including:
Nutrient Analysis Report: Includes a food item description and detailed nutrient analysis of selected portion sizes for any or all of the 68 nutrients. Specific ratios such as calcium to phosphorus, polyunsaturated to saturated fat, and the caloric distribution in a meal are also determined.
Nutrient Values per Selected Serving Size: The nutrient composition of a user specified serving size of a food item.
Food Item Catalog by Gram Weight and Household Conversion Code: List of gram weights and household conversion code descriptions for each item in the data base, in alphabetic or numeric order.
Food Items by Specific Nutrient: List of all food items containing a specified nutrient per 100 grams
Nutritional Assessment Report: Provides demographic and health status information for clinical evaluation and recommendations.
Specific Nutrient Report Per 100 Grams: Lists the selected food items and the nutrients for a 100 gram portion of the food item.
